Tasks

What is due today, across the whole office, operable from the keyboard.

"What is due today" is not a question about a person and not one about a property. It is a question about the day. That is why it gets its own row and not just a column on a contact.

The layout

The single primary action at the top, below it four views with their counts, below that the toolbar, below that the list. The page itself does not scroll, only the list does.

ViewWhat is in it
OpenEverything still to do
TodayWhat is due today
OverdueWhat has been left lying
DoneWhat you have ticked off

Grouping follows the day: Overdue (in the warning colour), then the next seven days individually with Today, Tomorrow and the weekday, then Later and No deadline. Under Done the groups are This week and Earlier. Group headers stick to the top while scrolling.

A row is 36 pixels tall and carries the tick, the title, the link, the deadline and the assignee. The same row appears on a property, on a contact and on the start screen. It measures its container rather than the window, so in a narrow column the side fields move below the title.

Under Open, the last row of the list is empty and waits for a new task.

What you can do here

New task sits in the header and on the N key. In the dialog: the title large, with the placeholder "What needs doing? @ links it", below it Description and the three chips Deadline, Assignee and Link.

The empty row at the end of the list is faster. Deadline and link only appear there once you type the first character.

Ticking off: the tick on the left. Undo then appears right next to the title.

In the row menu: Open, Assign to me, the Move group and Remove, which asks once.

The link is a person from your contacts or a property, and both live in one search, because it is one question. It also forms when you type @ in the title.

The view and the assignee live in the address (?sicht=, ?zustaendig=). "Have a look at Anna's overdue items" is therefore a link, not a sequence of clicks. The filter word is not in the address: a keystroke is not a place.

Keyboard

On the title or the tick of a row:

KeyWhat happens
J, K, arrowsTo the neighbouring row
H, M, WDeadline to today, tomorrow, next week
IAssign to me
EnterOpens the drawer
SpaceTicks off, when the tick has focus
ZUndoes the last tick

The same shortcuts appear in the row menu and work there too. Z only affects the most recently ticked row, and not while you are in a field or a menu.

The tick is a promise first

The server only learns about the tick when the row leaves the list, so after a good two seconds. Until then Undo takes it back without a request ever having gone out. If the row leaves the tree earlier, or you close the window, the tick goes out immediately.

Under reduced motion every step appears at once. The wait before the row disappears stays anyway: it is not motion, it is the time for Undo.

What the agent does here

It creates tasks and looks them up. A task it has suggested carries a sparkle next to the title with the sentence "The agent suggested this task", and the same sentence appears in the drawer's history.

No yes waits here: a task stays in the house, so it needs no approval.

On the start screen the loop closes visibly. The Task chip fills the input with "I would like to make a note of something", the conversation turns that into a task, and the task appears in the Tasks tab of the column beside it.

Worth knowing

The empty row for creating sits only under Open. A task without a deadline, created under Today, would never appear there, and the row would look as if it had done nothing.

The filter field sieves the loaded list; it does not re-query.

Overdue is the only place on this screen where colour means something.
